Cross over lane to wooden stile, follow path with fence to
your left to a gate 100m, bear left through gate and follow natural path
across Daneway Banks climbing very gradually to next stile 300m to cross
lane into
Sicarage Wood.
Follow stone track through the wood for approx ½ mile to a main junction
of 5 paths, take the path that bears to left down very steep path to bridge
over the old canal. Cross the bridge and turn sharp left at end of bridge
parapet on to old towpath, follow this “upstream” to narrow wooden
footbridge, cross over and again follow path to the road and The Daneway
pub will be in front of you. (Don’t you dare go in we’re only
10 minutes away now).
Again follow towpath towards Sapperton and follow path to tunnel entrance, cross over this to stile into meadow, here there is a steep well defined path heading back to the church steeple, finally rejoin path to climb back to The Bell for a well earned pint.
This walk takes me and Harry, our springer spaniel, about an hour and a quarter so allow an hour and a half unless you walk at speed.
